C+C supports the Washington Traffic Safety Commission in conducting campaigns to curb the dangerous behavior of distracted driving. With five weeks of lead time, we launched one of the nation’s strictest distracted driving laws with an awareness campaign in seven different languages, including a media event with Washington’s governor at the state Capitol that resulted in more than 2,200 new stories. We followed the launch with a targeted cross-cultural distracted driving campaign targeting moms with young children. Using quantitative research and behavior change marketing principles, we built PSAs in both English and Spanish that have been viewed more than 5 million times. Results? You bet. An observational study in 2019 showed a 40% decrease of people in Washington using their cell phones while driving.
