Demystifying Carbon Offsets

Aurora Sustainable Lands

Showing the real-world impact of carbon offsets

Aurora Sustainable Lands is one of America’s largest private owners of forestland, creating carbon offsets to fund long-term forest protection. Carbon offsets are complex, so C+C built a multiyear communications strategy to make Aurora’s impact clear, concrete, and locally relevant. The anchor: turning the idea of carbon offsets into something tangible.

We took reporters into Aurora forests in Florida, Michigan, and Louisiana, showing them the trees and wildlife saved through Aurora’s work. We prepped experts to easily explain how Aurora’s forest strategy reduces hurricane risk, supports biodiversity, and allows the forest to capture and store more carbon. These experiences demystified carbon markets and grounded the story in the benefits to nearby communities. We paired these tours with proactive storytelling around milestones such as landmark carbon purchases, positioning Aurora as a trusted voice in a rapidly evolving industry.
